A Slightly Misleading Subject Line for a Real Issue
The only reason we gave this email a rating of ‘close enough’ instead of ‘true story’ is the fact that the subject line fails to mention that the restrictions are only for military retirees and survivors outside of the country that use US Embassy and Consulate addresses. Unfortunately, the rest of the email is very accurate at the moment.
As of January 1, 2010, military retirees and their survivors will not be able to use State Department addresses that are used at embassies and consulates overseas. Those military retirees and survivors that rely on these mailbox deliveries will be greatly affected by this, especially as it will include a halt of shipments of medications via the TRICARE Mail Order Pharmacy. Active Duty service personnel and their families and military retirees that have current DoD civilian jobs or basically anyone, retired or not, will not be restricted from using the APO/FPO mail privileges as long as they are on military installations. The total number of people estimated to be affected by the change is listed as 4,800, a figure that appears to be accurate.
