Each of your points is faulty, and I'll explain why.

1. So the email in question got the name of the Veterans Administration wrong. Big deal. If you're going to discount the email for this, then you're grasping at straws, and it weakens your entire argument, which, IMO, is weak to begin with.

2. Your point that the DVA is strict in its adherence to patient-doctor confidentiality, and does not report information to the DHS is ludicrous. Yeah, right. We're the government. You can trust us.

3. You claim the DHS has no influence on whether or not local governments issue gun permits. This is simply false. If there is a DHS report out there that John Doe has problems with stress and wants to harm people, you can damn well bet it will influence local governments in their decision as to whether or not to issue a gun permit to John Doe. The fact that you actually believe otherwise is testimony to your naivete.

4. You say, "There is no record of DHS asking DVA to ask these questions, and even if they did, the DVA is an independent cabinet position and not under the jurisdiction of DHS." Don't believe for a second that DHS and DVA, and other Departments of Government for that matter, don't work together. Just because they are supposedly "independent" doesn't mean they don't work together. The FBI and DEA are independent entities, but work together on cases all the time. If you really believe the DVA and DHS are above "working together" on perceived problems, then you're a fool.

5. The lack of any specifics? Give us a break. If it's an email intended to be passed around the internet, it's understandable that the author doesn't want personal information in it.

6. Just because these are routine questions that have been asked for years doesn't mean a new purpose can't be added to their reason for being. Your claim that the answers to these questions can't NOW be used to deny gun permits is simply naive.

Overall, your Obama apologia was unpersuasive, and demonstrated a high degree of faith in the integrity of big government, a faith the rest of us don't share - and for good reason.

Well said. These things come and go in waves. You wouldn't believe how many 'Obama is about to honor Jane Fonda as a Women of the Century' emails we've seen floating around in just the past couple of weeks. It is almost the same exact message that first came out in 1999 about President Clinton and again nearly every year referencing President Bush. It is such a persistent viral message that there's almost no point in debunking it anymore.

I can see that the masses got absolutely nothing out of reading the post. Not even the fact that all this was 12 years ago not right now. Just a little FYI for the masses.

Original Washington Post article, January 12, 2000 Cindy Williams was not employed by the CBO at the time of the article. She left in 1997.

Original response from Jan. 2000 had accurate basic pay info but failed to include all benefits info. The 2012 pay and allowances for an E-1 with less than 2 years stationed out of Hill AFB deployed in Afghanistan come to $3001 per month, assuming he is single. Since he's in a war zone his tax rates are adjusted.

The President of the United States does NOT appoint the Head of the CBO, the Speaker of the House and the President pro tem of the Senate do. The appointee hires there staff.

If any of you had taken the time to read the original article by Ms. Williams you would have seen that her arguments at that time were accurate. BTW my husband was stationed at a remote station at the time the article was written so I have a little insight into what was real and what was hype from congress. It's amazing how these things keep popping up.

When I came home From Iraq I was diagnosed with PTSD, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, (a medical term that simply means that as long as I live I WILL NEVER FORGET!) I was told that I am sick that I am not Right. Then I turned on the TV and I see Dick Durbin saying American soldiers are committing acts of torture at places like Abu Grab and Quantico because they had a Al Qaeda terrorist who saws civilians heads off with their hands tied behind their backs, Al Qaeda terrorist who place bombs on three year old children, Al Qaeda terrorist who came in our country when we were at peace and murdered over two thousand American civilians, and they had these terrorist standing on a bar stool with a dunce cap on their head and that’s Torture! Why in the hell didn’t he say a damned thing about Matt Maupin, Shoshana Johnson, Edgar Hernandez, James Riley, Patrick Miller, Joseph Hudson, Jacob N. Fritz, Jonathan B. Chism, Shawn P. Falter, Jonathon M. Millican, or any of the other American soldiers who have been captured during this war! Private Kristian Menchaca of Houston and Private Thomas Tucker of Oregon were captured by terrorists in Iraq , hacked to death, their eyes gouged, their bodies defiled. In fact it was the American soldiers who have died including all those who have been captured in this war (and I haven’t seen any enemy POW camps but I’ve seen a shit load of bodies that have been tortured to death by these scum that Dick Durbin is defending!) that give Dick Durbin the FREEDOM to call them nazis for putting some Al-Qaida dirt bag on a bar stool with pajamas and a dunce cap! I might have PTSD but I’m not the one who is sick it’s DICK DURBIN! Are you Really an AMERICAN DICK?!?! Or just another Communist who hates AMERICA ? Yah call me a nazi I take that as a compliment coming from a pro-faggot pinko communist like you! The nazis only murdered 6 million people compared to you communist who murdered over 200 million!
On June 4, 1963, a virtually unknown Presidential decree, Executive Order 11110, was signed by Presedent John Fitzgerald Kennedy, with the authority to basically strip the Federal Reserve Bank(WHICH IS PRIVATLY OWNED!) of its power to loan money to the United States Federal Government at interest.
Article 1 Section 8 of the U.S. Constitution clearly states that only the Congress can print and coin money!
The Federal Reserve Act was slipped thru congress with the majority of it's members away on Christmas break.
President Kennedy was assassinated on November 22, 1963 and the United
States Notes he had issued were immediately taken out of circulation!!!!!!
IT WASN’T THE NAZIS WHO MURDERED A SITTING UNITED STATES PRESIDENT! IT WAS YOU COMMUNIST!!!
AFTER HE SIGNED AN ORDER TELLING YOU TO STOP RIPPING US OFF LIKE THE LAZY BAGS OF SHIT THAT YOU ARE, AND WHERE YOU COULD SHOVE IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If you carefully read these explanations, no one has said that the people at the funeral who wrote the letter, were wrong or trying to create a lie. They did witness the words President of the United States being replaced by the Secretary of Defense. They assumed (apparently incorrectly) that Obama had done this. I'd like to know WHY the statement was delivered incorrectly that day at that funeral. All branches of the service are supposed to say it that way. There must be some explanation. The sad thing is, why did these people assume this? Have they reason to think Obama would do such a thing? I don't like Obama, but after reading this email, I couldn't believe he would go that far.

I simply needed to thank you so much yet again. I'm not certain the things that I might have made to happen in the absence of the actual basics revealed by you regarding my question. Completely was the fearsome matter in my position, but taking note of the skilled fashion you treated it forced me to weep over delight. I am thankful for your support and then sincerely hope you find out what a great job you are always getting into teaching many people thru your web site. Most probably you haven't met all of us.
